AI Automation Cost in Egypt: 2026 Pricing Guide for SMBs

AI automation for an Egyptian SMB in 2026 typically costs a one-off build fee of roughly EGP 10,000–400,000 depending on complexity, plus monthly running costs that can be as low as a few hundred pounds for a simple workflow or several thousand for a busy WhatsApp AI bot. The build is the visible number; the running costs are where budgets go wrong.

Key takeaways

  • Split every quote into one-off build cost and monthly running cost. Most surprises come from the second.
  • Tools bill in USD or EUR. At an assumed planning rate of about EGP 48–52 per USD (October 2026), small price differences matter more than they look.
  • WhatsApp Business Platform fees for Egypt are per message, and service replies became billable on 1 October 2026 after 1,000 free per number per month.
  • LLM token costs for a typical SMB bot are usually small (tens of dollars a month), but they scale with traffic and prompt size.
  • Calculate ROI as hours saved × loaded salary cost − running costs, then work out the payback period.

All prices below were checked on 20 October 2026. USD-to-EGP conversions assume EGP 50 per USD for easy maths; check the Central Bank of Egypt rate on the day you pay.

What are you actually paying for?

Every AI automation project in Egypt has two cost buckets:

  1. Build (one-off): discovery, designing the workflow, building it in n8n, Make, Zapier or custom code, connecting your systems (WhatsApp, Google Sheets, CRM, Shopify, Odoo), testing with real Arabic and English messages, and handover.
  2. Run (monthly): the automation platform subscription or server, WhatsApp message fees, LLM API tokens, and maintenance.

A cheap build with expensive running costs can be worse than the reverse. If you're new to the concepts, our workflow automation 101 guide covers the basics.

How much do automation tools cost per month?

Automation platforms are the "engine" that runs your workflows. Here's what the three most common options cost, based on third-party trackers of their published pricing in 2026 (n8n, Make, Zapier):

ToolEntry paid plan (Oct 2026)What you getApprox. EGP/month
n8n Cloud Starter~€20/mo (annual) or ~€24/mo (monthly)2,500 workflow executions~EGP 1,100–1,350
n8n self-hosted (Community)€0 licence + serverUnlimited executions, you maintain it~EGP 250–400 for a small VPS
Make Core~$9/mo (annual) or ~$12/mo (monthly)10,000 credits~EGP 450–600
Zapier Professional~$19.99/mo (annual) or ~$29.99/mo (monthly)750 tasks~EGP 1,000–1,500

A few things the headline prices hide:

  • Units differ. n8n counts a whole workflow run as one execution; Make charges a credit per module action; Zapier charges per successful action step. A 10-step workflow running 1,000 times a month is 1,000 n8n executions but around 10,000 Make credits or Zapier tasks.
  • Self-hosting isn't free. European VPS prices rose in 2026 — Hetzner's small shared plans moved from about €3.49 to roughly €4–6 per month. You also need backups, updates, and someone who knows Linux.
  • Annual vs monthly billing changes the price by 20–35%.

We compare the three in detail in n8n vs Make vs Zapier for Egyptian businesses.

How much does the WhatsApp Business Platform cost in Egypt?

Since 1 July 2025, Meta has billed the WhatsApp Business Platform per delivered template message instead of per 24-hour conversation, with the price set by the recipient's country and the message category (Zoho summary of Meta's change).

Rates reported for Egypt from 1 July 2026 (ChatMaxima, Zernio):

Message categoryPrice per message (USD)Approx. EGPTypical use
Marketing$0.0644~EGP 3.2Offers, broadcasts, re-engagement
Utility$0.0036~EGP 0.18Order confirmation, shipping updates
Authentication$0.0036~EGP 0.18OTP codes
Service (replies within 24h)First 1,000/month free per number, then charged—Answering customer questions

Two important updates:

  • From 1 October 2026, service messages are billable. Free-form replies inside the 24-hour customer service window, and utility templates sent inside that window, are now charged after the first 1,000 free service messages per business phone number per month, at roughly the local utility rate (Twilio notice, YCloud). Conversations started from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad keep their free 72-hour window.
  • VAT. Providers apply Egypt's 14% VAT on top of Meta's rates, in line with Egypt's VAT rules for non-resident digital service providers.

Worked example (assumptions: 3,000 order confirmations, 4,000 service replies, one 5,000-person marketing broadcast per month):

  • 3,000 utility confirmations × $0.0036 = $10.80
  • 4,000 service replies − 1,000 free = 3,000 × ~$0.0036 = ~$10.80
  • 5,000 marketing messages × $0.0644 = $322
  • Total ≈ $344 + 14% VAT ≈ EGP 19,600 per month

Notice that the broadcast is over 90% of the bill. Confirmations and support are cheap; mass marketing is not. A BSP (Business Solution Provider) may add its own platform fee on top. For bot design itself, see our WhatsApp bot guide for Egyptian businesses.

How much do LLM API tokens cost?

If your automation "thinks" — understands Egyptian Arabic messages, classifies leads, drafts replies — it calls a large language model and pays per token. List prices reported in 2026 (OpenAI GPT-5 mini, Gemini 2.5 Flash, Claude Haiku 4.5):

ModelInput / output per 1M tokensExample monthly cost*
OpenAI GPT-5 mini$0.25 / $2.00~$14 (~EGP 720)
Google Gemini 2.5 Flash$0.30 / $2.50~$18 (~EGP 880)
Anthropic Claude Haiku 4.5$1.00 / $5.00~$50 (~EGP 2,500)

*Assuming 3,000 conversations a month, 6 messages each, ~2,000 input tokens (instructions + history + product info) and ~150 output tokens per message: about 36M input and 2.7M output tokens. Prompt caching can cut input costs substantially.

Model choice should follow quality on your messages — Egyptian dialect, Franco-Arabic, voice notes — not just price. The difference between models is often a few hundred to a couple of thousand pounds a month, which is small next to a salary.

What does a typical AI automation project cost in Egypt?

These are typical market ranges from our experience with SMBs in Cairo, Alexandria and the wider region, not fixed prices. Scope, integrations, and data quality move the number more than anything else.

Project typeExampleTypical build (EGP)Typical monthly run (EGP)
Simple workflowWebsite form → Google Sheet → WhatsApp/email alert10,000–40,0000–1,500
WhatsApp botFAQ + order capture + COD confirmation40,000–150,0001,500–8,000 + marketing messages
AI agent with CRM integrationQualifies leads in Arabic/English, books calls, updates HubSpot/Odoo120,000–400,000+4,000–20,000

Projects for businesses selling into Saudi Arabia or the UAE often cost more to run because WhatsApp rates for those markets differ from Egypt's — check the rate for where your customers are. Examples of what these projects look like in practice are in how to automate customer support in Egypt and COD order confirmation automation.

Freelancer vs agency vs in-house: which is cheaper?

OptionCost profileBest forWatch out for
FreelancerLowest build priceOne clear workflow, low riskAvailability for fixes, documentation, single point of failure
AgencyHigher build price, often a support retainerCustomer-facing bots, multi-system integrationsPaying for process you don't need on tiny projects
In-house developerFixed monthly salaryContinuous automation backlogRecruiting time; one person can't cover everything

For context, salary surveys put a mid-level software developer in Egypt somewhere around EGP 20,000–60,000 per month in 2026, with wide variation by city and employer (WhatIsTheSalary, PayScale). That's a recurring cost before social insurance — which is why in-house usually only makes sense once automation is ongoing work, not a single project.

What hidden costs do Egyptian businesses miss?

  • USD card payments. Most tools bill in USD or EUR. Egyptian banks typically add an FX markup — NBE, CIB and Banque Misr cut theirs to 3% in August 2025 — and cards can have international spending limits that cause failed renewals and paused workflows.
  • 14% VAT on many foreign digital services.
  • Exchange-rate movement. A tool that costs $50 is a different EGP number each year. Budget with a buffer.
  • Maintenance. APIs change, Meta updates its policies, your prices and products change. In our experience, plan for some monthly maintenance budget or a retainer rather than assuming "build once, run forever".
  • Your team's time for testing, writing FAQ content, and reviewing what the bot says.
  • Data protection. If your bot handles personal data, factor in compliance work — see our post on Egypt's data protection law and AI chatbots.

How do you estimate ROI in Egyptian pounds?

Use this formula:

Monthly saving = hours saved per month × loaded hourly cost − monthly running costs Payback (months) = build cost ÷ monthly saving

Worked example (all numbers are assumptions — replace them with yours):

  • A support/sales employee earns EGP 12,000 gross per month.
  • Loaded cost: assume 1.3× gross to cover employer social insurance, equipment and overhead = EGP 15,600.
  • Working hours: 48 per week ≈ 208 hours per month → ~EGP 75 per hour.
  • A WhatsApp bot handles order confirmations and repeat questions, saving 3 employees 40 hours each = 120 hours → EGP 9,000/month.
  • Running costs (tools + WhatsApp utility/service messages + LLM): assume EGP 3,000/month.
  • Net saving: EGP 6,000/month. With an EGP 60,000 build, payback ≈ 10 months.

That's a conservative, hours-only view. If faster replies recover even a few abandoned orders or after-hours leads each week, payback can be much shorter — but only count that once you can measure it. If the honest maths says 3+ years, the project is probably too big or the wrong process.

How we'd approach this

We'd start by picking one process with obvious, countable hours — usually order confirmation, lead follow-up, or repeat WhatsApp questions — and estimate both cost buckets before writing any workflow. Then we'd run it as a 14-day pilot on real traffic, so the ROI calculation uses your actual message volumes and token usage instead of guesses. If the numbers work, we scale; if not, you've spent two weeks, not a year. More on how that works on our services page.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a WhatsApp chatbot cost in Egypt in 2026?

In our experience, a WhatsApp bot that answers FAQs and captures orders usually costs roughly EGP 40,000–150,000 to build, depending on integrations and Arabic dialect handling. Running costs are separate: Meta's per-message fees (Egypt utility templates were listed at about $0.0036 each from July 2026), an automation tool or server, and LLM tokens if the bot uses AI. Small bots often run for a few thousand EGP per month.

Is n8n free to use for an Egyptian business?

The self-hosted n8n Community Edition has no licence fee, but you still pay for a server, backups, and someone to maintain it. A small cloud VPS in Europe typically costs a few euros per month in 2026. n8n Cloud removes the server work and, as of October 2026, third-party trackers list Starter at about €20–24 per month for 2,500 workflow executions.

How much does WhatsApp Business API cost per message in Egypt?

Meta charges per delivered template message, based on the recipient's country. Rates reported for Egypt from 1 July 2026 are about $0.0644 per marketing message and $0.0036 per utility or authentication message, before 14% VAT. Since 1 October 2026, service replies are also billable after the first 1,000 free per phone number per month. Always confirm on Meta's current rate card.

Should I hire a freelancer, an agency, or an in-house developer for automation?

A freelancer is usually cheapest for a single, well-defined workflow. An agency costs more but typically covers discovery, testing, documentation, and support, which matters when the automation touches customers or money. An in-house developer makes sense once you have a continuous pipeline of automation work, since a mid-level Egyptian developer's salary is a fixed monthly cost whether or not there's a project.

How do I calculate ROI on automation in Egyptian pounds?

Multiply the hours the automation saves each month by the loaded hourly cost of the people doing that work today (salary plus social insurance and overhead). Subtract the monthly running costs, then divide the one-off build cost by that net monthly saving to get a payback period in months. Add revenue effects, like fewer lost leads, only if you can measure them.

What hidden costs should I expect with AI automation in Egypt?

The common ones are paying USD-billed tools with an Egyptian card (bank FX markups, often around 3%, and spending limits), 14% VAT on foreign digital services, Meta's WhatsApp fees, LLM usage that grows with traffic, and ongoing maintenance when APIs or business rules change. Budget for these from day one rather than treating the build price as the total.
